Studio resident 2022:
Tiffany Barber is a contemporary figurative artist based in Brighton. Born in Scotland she was raised as an athlete but always strived to be a painter. The disciplined nature of her athletic upbringing is reflected in the meticulously detailed artworks she creates. Spending four years at Edinburgh College of Art and a period at the Hungarian University of Fine Art, Tiffany's intrigue for classical architecture and sculpture strengthened.
The fascination for the grandiosity of renaissance art contrasting with banal everyday life has been the propeller for her most recent oil paintings. By fusing classism with contemporary, this helps to provoke a dialogue concerning current modern, social or political issues. The paintings encourage us to dissect the concepts behind them through their relatable imagery, assisting us to build a bridge between the old and the new. The concepts are taken further by altering the sculptures natural settings & isolating them into the abyss.
The Sculptures are meticulously chosen subject to their concepts, mythology or tableaux to sympathize with contemporary issues. The purpose for the creation of these artworks is for people to share ideas and thoughts based around the subject matter. Although there are written concepts and ideas written for each piece, the artist encourages us to think for ourselves and how we individually relate to the imagery
