Jamiu uses his work as a means to explore and question themes such as popular culture, dreams and religious iconography, both in terms of his personal relationship with them and wider societal observation.
He sees his art as an opportunity to break free from societal and cultural norms and boundaries, looking back on his life and experiences, reappraising, rediscovering meaning, making sense, amidst complexity and nuance.
Visual art for Jamiu is a means of communicating that which cannot be expressed in words, of bridge building, making connections between ideas and cultures. He states, “culture is constantly shifting and evolving. It has no fixed address - especially in a city like London, which gives birth to numerous hybrids of identities. My work helps me process this rapid evolution and shifts in ideas and cultures around me, acting as an anchor and a guide to reality.”
